Michael W. Maloney
Michael is a versatile, technically-oriented, business development professional with a proven track record of strategic planning, competitive positioning, team building, and bid and proposal management, consistently meeting growth objectives.
He has extensive experience at developing close, profitable customer relationships, both domestic and international, and shaping requirements for responsive designs and competitive positioning.
He has successfully managed complex negotiations to close over $300M in new business and prosecuted successful patent litigations resulting in significant settlements and improved competitive positioning.
He has a close familiarity with DoD requirements and the acquisition process through prior work on an Air Force source selection team and numerous advanced development programs and proposals.
About Michael
Michael founded Satellite Design for Recovery to highlight the need for current spacecraft and launch vehicle designs to change to in order to accommodate future active debris removal operations.
He was the President of Proximate Wireless and also a co-founder of Atlas Rewards, and is one of the leading experts in proximity and location based technology. His expertise extends across specialized location and contextually based wireless solutions, and is supported by a strong engineering background, which includes satellite communications and navigation avionics.
As the president of Atlas Rewards, he worked with small to midsize business owners, helping them deploy mobile wallet marketing based solutions as part of a SaaS platform offering that was created by Maloney and his partners. These solutions include iBeacons, geofencing and other smart device based technologies.
While at DiaComm, Michael was responsible for providing marketing and engineering services to a variety of Silicon Valley based companies, including Lockheed Martin, Cisco Systems, Hewlett Packard, and Hyundai Electronics.
As Director of International Business Development at Lockheed Martin Telecommunications and Space Systems/Loral, Maloney secured new orders for satellites, space-qualified components and services in excess of $300M.
He began his career serving in the US Air Force, flying on B-52s and then working on navigation avionics in the Air National Guard. This led him to develop an approach for aircraft collision avoidance that resulted in an invitation to join Lincoln Laboratory at MIT to collaborate on the development of the Terminal Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), currently used by all domestic airlines.
Michael is an award winning navigator with multiple long distance ocean yacht racing teams; his sailing highlights include wins in the Tahiti Cup, the Pacific Cup, and several Mexico races including class wins in the 2022 and 2024 San Diego to Puerto Vallarta race; he has also executed many successful campaigns in the San Francisco Bay area.
